Di fronte all'impossibilità di riuscire a piazzare concerti di gruppi country, Hilly decide di aprire le porte del suo locale ad altri tipi di musica e di lasciare spazio a giovani esponenti della musica rock underground e del punk, artisti che nessuno conosceva e che presentavano i loro pezzi originali. Diventerà così il padrino di gruppi come i Blondie, i Television, i Ramones, i Talking Heads, i Dead Boys e i Police
