Nel settembre del 2000, Terry Gillian avrebbe dovuto iniziare le riprese del film "The man who killed Don Quixote", una mega-produzione europea che raccontava le disavventure di un pubblicitario americano capitato, chissà come, nella Spagna del XVII secolo, ed assoldato da Don Chisciotte come novello Sancho Panza. Il film ebbe problemi fin dalla pre-produzione, e naufragò dopo soli sei giorni di lavorazione grazie ad un'incredibile concomitanza di eventi: un uragano che semi-distrusse le apparecchiature, problemi logistici sottovalutati e soprattutto una grave malattia che costrinse il protagonista Jean Rochefort a rinunciare all'impresa.
