Dopo aver sconfitto i Turchi, torna a Cipro dove Jago, suo aiutante, gli fa credere che sua moglie Desdemona sia l'amante del giovane capitano Cassio. Otello fa uccidere Cassio e soffoca Desdemona ma, avuta la prova della loro innocenza, si uccide. Jago pagherà con la vita il suo tradimento.
